As you scroll down this page, you will see a song titled “Old Town Road- Lil Nas X Ft Billy Ray Cyrus”. This song reminds me of Sonny in the text “Sonny’s Blues”, which I wrote about in my Critical Research paper. The song is about a young man leaving his current town to go far away and experience things he hasn’t before. In Sonny’s Blues, Sonny tries to leave town many times hoping to escape Harlem and its darkness. Harlem was a place that had very little opportunity for the black youth, and Sonny had bigger dreams for himself. Therefore, in the song, Sonny would be the writer, who’s plan is to run away from his current circumstances and find a better life for himself without looking back.
